I've been collecting vintage matchbox label images for a while now, and each time I use them, I'm blown away by their artistry, those rich saturated tones, and the range of images from beautiful to abstract to wonderfully weird. These labels, originating in India, Japan, Sweden, Czech, Poland, and Hungary, mostly date back to the 1940s-50s. Pairing these with mid century produced Bakelite dominoes, creates something truly special.
I also love collecting images of old food labels, Victorian era postcards, sardine labels, vintage sideshow & circus ephemera. Anything that speaks to my vintage loving heart!
The process involves drilling a hole to allow the wire bail and bead work to attach. Then the image is adhered onto the Bakelite game pieces. Once dry a glossy resin coat is layered on, which needs 24 hours of curing. Once dry they get a little edge painting, then paired with beads and chain. The result is a really cool, unique, and one-of-a-kind statement piece.
